We love this easy recipe for dinner because it takes literally 10 minutes to throw together, is super low in carbs, high in protein, and absolute packed with flavor.
Street tacos are especially fun because they're a nice change from typical American tacos that feature shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, and pico de gallo, but still feature items readily available at any grocery store.

Skirt Steak – inexpensive, and tender whe marinated, slice the steak into thing strips against the grain before marinating.
Oil – I'll always recommend an avocado oil or olive oil. Avocado has a higher smoke point, but use what you have on hand.
Spices – smoked paprika, salt, pepper, oregano, cumin, chili powder, and garlic.
Tacos – there are many great (even corn!) keto tortillas on the market. I really love Ala Madre Tortillas, or one of these low-carb tortillas. Alternatively, these can be served on a lettuce wrap.
Fresh Cilantro & Onion – Raw, for toping for an authentic street taco. White onion is preferred to yellow or red onion.
Lime Juice or Lime Wedges – for marinating and toppings. I always prefer fresh squeezed from an actual lime, but let's be honest the stuff from the bottle works just as well and is easier.
Cotija Cheese – optional, but some people like a bit of cheese on their steak street tacos.
Salsa Verde – for the perfect authentic taco and a hit of spice. Bonus if you're make homemade salsa!
As always, having certain supplies on hand in the kitchen will make this recipe simpler, although many substitutions can be made for the exact items I used.

How to Make Low Carb Carne Asada Tacos
First, whisk together oil, soy sauce/coconut aminos lime juice, garlic, cumin, chili powder, paprika, and oregano. Add in the thinly sliced skirt steak and marinate at least 2 hours, or overnight for the most flavor.
Second, cook the tacos by greasing a large skillet or grill pan with olive oil or avocado oil and heating over medium-high heat. Grill the marinated steak strips in batches flipping after 2-3 minutes. This should go quickly.
Third, cook your tortillas on medium heat and chop your onions and cilantro for toppings.
Assemble the tacos with a low carb tortilla, steak, cilantro, onions, and salsa verde – enjoy warm!
Recipe FAQ's
How do I store these mexican street tacos as leftovers?
Store leftover steak in it's own airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Store chopped onion and cilantro separate from the tortillas as well. Reheat components before assembling and serving.
What cut of beef should I use for this steak taco recipe?
Skirt steak is preferred because it takes marinade really well, slices thing and has a bit of fat on it. The key not to overcook it and use some acid in the marinade, like I have written in the recipe. Always slice steak against the grain for maximum tenderness. If you don't like skirt steak, some people prefer flank steak, and I've made them with thinly sliced sirloin steak as well.
Can these be prepared ahead of time?
If preparing for a crowd, marinate the meat the day before. Chop onions and cilantro for toppings the day before as well and store in an airtight container until it's time to serve. Tortillas can be cooked ahead of time and kept in a warm pan or serving dish. It is better to cook the steak fresh though.
