Why Include Orange Juice?
I'm fully prepared to get kickback on this smoothie recipe.
After all, juice is pretty much off-limits on the keto diet. Too many carbohydrates, too much sugar!
And I get it.
4 oz of 100% Orange Juice contains:
- 55 calories
- 0g Fat
- 13g Carbohydrates (11g of Sugar)
- 1g Protein
On a ketogenic diet that <20g of carbohydrates for the day, 13g is probably too much to include.
But for most people, sticking to <50g carbohydrates per day is perfectly fine to stay in ketosis, and actually reap the theraputic and fat loss benefits of the ketogenic diet.
Those on a low carb diet (which is widely considered to be <120g daily carbohhydrates, but definitions vary) can REALLY benefit from a bit of orange juice.
Because that same 4oz of orange juice is packed full of nutrients including:
- Vitamin C
- Vitamin B1
- Anti-Inflammatory Flavenoids
While it is best consumed with both protein and fat, including a bit of orange juice each day can actually help reduce inflammation.
And for anyone who participates in physical activity, orange juice provides a quickly available source of glucose for muscle to use and recover with!
The choice is yours, of course, but I believe a bit of orange juice is worth including in your day, especially in the morning!
