Ingredients for Low Carb Peppermint Patties
I have tried to use only easily accessible ingredients for these sugar free peppermint patties. The result is a sweet mint chocolate treat – and all of it is sugar free and low carb.
No need for corn syrup or sugar-sweetened chocolate chips in this wonderful treat!
Here's what you'll need…
- Cream Cheese: the main ingredient in the filling. Cream Cheese is naturally low in carbs, has moderate protein, and on the high end of fat. If you're conscious of fat consumption, you can substitute neufchatel to cut out 1/3 of the fat.
- Keto Sweetener of Choice: I have 2 favorites, allulose and Lakanto Sweeteners. For this recipe I used Lakanto Confectioner's Sweetener, since it mixes into the cream cheese filling with very little resistance. Whatever sweetener your choose, a powdered sweetener is your best choice. Save $$ on Lakanto Confectioner's Sweetener using code FITMOMJOURNEY and shopping my link here.
- Peppermint Extract: most grocery stores carry a basic peppermint extract, which is essential for the peppermint flavor. If your grocery store does not carry it, find my picks here.
- Keto Dark Chocolate Chips: Lily's Dark Chocolate Chips are the best option here, but semi-sweet or milk chocolate in the Lily's Brand will also work if that's what your local store carries. You can also buy them here. If you have another favorite brand of sugar-free chocolate chips, feel free to use them!
- Heavy Cream: Organic heavy whipping cream is best, but no need to break the bank. Store brand will do.

How to Make The Low Carb Peppermint Patties
This recipe for homemade peppermint patties is very easy to make, but does require a bit of patience while freezing the filling, and melting the chocolate for the outside coating.
But, it is very beginner friendly!
First, mix together all the filling ingredients until smooth.
Using a cookie scoop or spoon, portion out the filling onto a parchment-paper lined baking tray. Depending upon the size of the portions, you should have 12-18 portions of filling.
Cut out an approximately 4-inch by 4-inch square of parchment paper and place it on top of the first portion of peppermint filling. Use a flat-bottomed glass to press down the filling until it is approximately 1/4 – 1/2 inch thick.
Continue flattening each portion of filling until the entire tray is done.
Place the baking tray in the freezer at least 4 hours, or overnight before proceeding to the chocolate coating step.
When the peppermint patties are frozen, leave them in the freezer while you melt the chocolate.
In a double boiler (or bowl over a hot pot of water) gently melt the keto dark chocolate chips with the whipping cream. Stir constantly while the chocolate melts and keep the heat only on medium so the chocolate does not seize.
Once the chocolate is entirely melted, remove the frozen filling from the freezer.
Remove the chocolate from the heat, and drop in 1 patty at a time. Use a fork to flip it and make sure it is entirely coated in the melted chocolate before lifting out of the chocolate with the fork and placing back on the parchment paper.
Continue until all the patties are coated with chocolate, then let the chocolate shell set up at room temperature for at least 1 hour.
Store in the refrigerator for up to 7 days and enjoy the yummy recipe!
