Sugar Free Orange Sherbet
Although I don't miss many foods on Keto (it is, after all, a lifestyle!) but the taste of citrus is one that I do g a craving for occasionally.
Since it's summer, I just HAD to whip up some Sugar Free Orange Sherbet with no added sugar and no citric acid to satisfy my craving!
My sugar free sherbet recipe is so good, they’ll take you back to childhood during a hot day – and you won’t miss the carbs!
Of course, they also contain tons of healthy ingredients that my 4-year old doesn’t even notice!
I used macadamia nut milk and coconut milk in this recipe to make it Dairy-Free, but you could very easily substitute another nut milk for the macadamia nut milk:
And for the coconut milk, you could substitute:
- Coconut Cream
- Heavy Cream
- Half and Half
The substitutions are pretty much endless!

Sugar Free Orange Sherbet FAQ's
Can I Use Fruit Juice Instead of Extract?
Yes, you can! Orange Juice has tons of health benefits (including 137% daily value of vitamin C) , whether it's from frozen concentrated orange juice, made from fresh oranges, or bottled from the grocery stores. To use fresh juice, reduce Macadamia Nut Milk to 1.5 cups, then add 1/2 cup Orange Juice. Adding fruit juice uses natural flavors instead of artificial flavor, which can be even better than an extract. As with all fruits, excess consumption can result in kicking you out of ketosis, or blood sugar dysregulation.
Do I Have To Use Macadamia Nut Milk?
Nope, you can use any milk you desire in this sweet treat. Bear in mind the macros will change, but you can substitute any low-fat 0r nonfat milk (nut or dairy) or the macadamia milk, such as almond milk or cashew milk.
Do I have to use Coconut Milk?
Nope, I just used coconut milk because it's a great way to get a full-fat milk in the sugar free sorbet without using dairy. You can substitute heavy whipping cream.
What additional sweetener can I use?
To keep the recipe without any added grams of sugar, stick to low-carb sweeteners such as Lakanto or Allulose. I chose Stevia glycerite because it does not add any volume to the sherbet. If you use stevia glycerite, no additional sweetener is needed. As with all sweeteners, be careful, as excess consumption can result in a laxative effect, so be sure to use a sweeter you know your body can handle.
How Many Grams of Carbs per Serving?
Each 1/2 cup serving of this frozen dessert has 3 g net carbs, and 3 grams of carbs total. For the full nutritional information, see the graphic above.
Do I Need a Thickener?
Many sugar free ice cream recipes uses thickeners like guar gum, locust bean gum, xanthan gum, or others. However, I have found that those are only necessary in regular ice creams, not sherbet.
