Air Fryer Green Beans
{Low Carb, Ketogenic, Paleo, Grain Free, Gluten Free, THM:S}
Green beans roasted in the oven take a long time and heat up the house, but Air Fryer Green Beans take less time, are crispy, and don't heat up the house. They're very easy to make and are an excellent side dish that you can use many different herb combinations on!
Are Green Beans Paleo?
First things first, let's get a couple of dietary questions out of the way.
The first – are green beans paleo?
Green beans are legumes, which are typically excluded on paleo (or whole30).
However, they fall into a sort of gray area within legumes, along with fresh peas and sugar snap peas. These legumes contain very small amounts of the antinutrients found in other legumes.
Therefore, consuming these are really a personal choice.
I personally choose to consume green beans (but not sugar snap peas or fresh peas) because I adhere to a low-carb version of paleo, and do not tolerate cruciferous veggies well, and therefore the types of vegetables I can eat are already cut down.
So basically, I don't exclude green beans.
Are Green Beans Keto?
I know there are a lot of keto people here too, which is why I need to address whether green beans are keto or not.
Green beans have, per 1/2 cup:
- 31 calories
- 0.1g fat
- 3.6g net carbs (7g carbs – 3.4g fiber)
- 1.8g protein
At 30 net carbohydrates per day, many servings of green beans will fit nicely into a day's meals.
What is the nutritional value of green beans?
Besides straight macros, green beans are a good source of potassium (209mg per 1/2 cup) and Vitamin C (27% DV).
Combined with the very small amount of anti-nutrients, these amounts of potassium and vitamin C make green beans a good choice!
How To Make Air Fryer Green Beans
Air Fryer Green Beans couldn't be simpler to make.
First, you'll snap the ends off your green beans, and snap into pieces of the desired length.
Coat with a bit of oil (optional, but this helps the spices adhere)
Then toss in spices of your choice (more on these in a second)
And air fry to desired crispness.
Making air fryer green beans couldn't be simpler!
